Labour 5 Missions

Labour in government will be driven by delivering its 5 Missions. The first is to secure the highest sustained growth in the G7 group of rich nations by the end of Labour's first term. This can only be cahieved by unleashing the potential of British Business.

Our Railways

Labour’s plan is to create a unified and simplified governance structure that places passengers at the heart of the goal, objectives and incentives for the railway, and to bring train operators under public ownership and control. Public ownership for our railways is about the practical need to deliver better services where they have failed.

Our heritage and Town Deal

Whilst we are about boosting our economy through Hight tech and R&D we recognise our industrial heritage too. We support the Town Deal and its investment in our historical industrial past as part of the visitor economy.

Education and Training

Loughborough University and the College are big employers in the town and contribute to the skills agenda. We will do everything we can to ensure that economic growth is not held back by skill shortages.

Creating Prosperity Together - From Jeevun Sandher

Labour will prioritise Economic Growth

I come from a family of businesspeople, and I represent a changed pro-business Labour Party. We stand ready to work with businesses to create prosperity for all. I am hopeful we can create that prosperity together, and I’m determined that we do so.

That is why this Labour Business Forum is so important to me. It is the body where we can work together to help create prosperity for all.

My family started their business working market stalls on freezing winter mornings. I’ve seen the dedication and skill it takes to build a great business. I know it’s not 9 to 5, I know the risks you take, and I know what an achievement it is to bring people together to create prosperity.

I became an Economist to make people prosperous. And, together, we can make our community - in Loughborough, Shepshed, and the Villages - prosperous again. I will always be here to listen and work with you to create that prosperity,

Our government programme to create prosperity with you rests on three pillars:

  1. Rebuild the foundations of our prosperity through skills, infrastructure, and the NHS.

  2. Investing in our Green Prosperity Plan with clean energy to get your bills down for good.

  3. Making it easier for you to do business by, for example, reforming business rates, stamping out late payments, and streamlining procurement.

We have the most detailed pre-manifesto programme of government in the history of our country.  You can read more our plan for SMEs here, clean energy here, skills here, and other mission documents here.

Below I give a small snapshot of how we, as a Labour government, will work with you to create prosperity.

We will rebuild the foundations of our prosperity. That includes ensuring workers have the skills they need through technical colleges and reforming the Apprenticeship Levy. We will make it easier to build infrastructure so you can get, for example, the grid connections you need. And we will get our NHS working again to make our workforce healthy again.

Our Green Prosperity Plan will help to get bills down and growth up. We will invest in clean energy to get your bills down. I am campaigning to bring National Wealth Funding to Loughborough for our hydrogen industry. When investment comes here to, for example, build hydrogen facilities, that money goes to the local builders’ pockets and is then spent in our shops. Green investment will make us all more prosperous.

We want to make it easier for you to do business. We will reform business rates to help our high street. We will help stop late payments on invoices that leaves too many SMEs struggling. And we will reform procurement to give small and medium businesses a fairer chance of benefiting from public contracts.

Building a prosperous community is the shared goal of all of us – businesses, workers, and politicians. I will always stand ready to work with you to create that prosperity.

We, in the Labour party, will be a responsible government that is here to serve the British people and work with British Businesses. We will be a serious government that will change this country for the better.

I’d love to hear from you about what is important to you. That is why this Business Forum is so important to me. I hope we meet in person. If you need me more quickly than that, please do e-mail me at: campaign@jeevunsandher.com. I’d love to hear from you,

Dr. Jeevun Sandher
